The UNHOOKED CELEBRATION
How To Stop Smoking And Start Living

This course is a weekly session experience that covers a seven week period. There are seven regular sessions, which occur at the same time each week. The Unhooked Celebration is  facilitated by Ed Golden, M.A., Th.D., a former smoker of 28 years, who has published a book which is used as the course material. He has presented this program in many areas of the country; in business, schools, churches, and small groups. Developing a Smoke Free Lifestyle is hard work, but with the education, group support, and helpful suggestions, many people are enjoying the success of achieving something they thought they could not do. People are guaranteed that, "You may not have had your last cigarette when you come to this experience, but you'll never enjoy smoking again." The Course fee is $185.00, which includes a copy of the book, "The Unhooked Celebration".

OUTLINE

SESSION I - WHY DO YOU SMOKE ? - Smokers have both a physical addiction to the drug NICOTINE, as well as a psychological habit of smoking. In this session participants will discover why they smoke, and what areas of concern they will want to focus on during the quitting process. People will discover what the drug nicotine does, and what it does not do. During this session, the class will begin to see how to take charge of  their emotional and mental processes, and not make choices based on their craving .

SESSION II - QUIT TRYING AND QUIT - Thousands of smokers have "tried to quit". New Years Resolutions and other promises just seem to get broken. Most people go about the process of  setting a goal by focusing on their determination alone. It takes more. You do not quit smoking by mere wish. This session will show participants how to set and achieve goals. Quitting smoking is not easy, and requires a careful plan. In the planning process, many things need to be considered that most people just don't think about. We will discuss nicotine trans-dermal systems, gum, and other devices on the market designed to help people quit.

SESSION III - INTENSIVE PREPARATION - Session IV is the planned Quit Date. This session would invite participants to bring a friend, family member, spouse, co-worker with them. We will discuss how to use a support system, and what is supportive vs. nagging. Diet, exercise, stress management, and other areas of concern will be introduced, with more emphasis on these at later sessions. We will discuss any final concerns that class members have prior to the Quit Date, which is the following week.

SESSION IV - CALLING IT QUITS -  Participants will report their success at whatever level they have achieved. Some members will opt to make this the date they put on the patch. Some will make this their "cold turkey date". Others will want to continue with the remainder of the sessions and quit at the end. This session will be used to re-enforce issues that need attention. There will a trash receptacle available for participants to place their no longer needed paraphernalia. This group celebrates success at whatever level was achieved. There is no failure. Some people become better educated smokers. People support each other, and some find that is just what they needed to be completely successful at quitting.

SESSION V -- This session is held to allow participants to share their experience after their Quit Date. Participants really need this time to share their experience, gain support, re-enforce their plan, and support other members of the group. People never have to ask why this session is planned. It is very obvious that they need to be there. Stress Management will be one of the primary topics  covered, as well as answering any questions about other items already covered.

SESSION VI - WHAT ABOUT THE REFRIGERATOR? - Diet and exercise are important aspects of quitting smoking. People are concerned about gaining weight. The class will be educated on the role that exercise plays in weight control. Participants will learn strategies for eating sensibly while avoiding feelings of deprivation, which could lead them back to smoking.
We will continue to talk about balance in recovery from nicotine addiction, and how important it is to find alternative ways to get needs met so that smoking is not an option.

SESSION VII - I QUIT, NOW WHAT? - The 12 Step Support Program of Nicotine Anonymous will be introduced and explained. The book gives an outline of one way to conduct support group meetings. Anyone can form a group at work, at church, at school, or meetings can be held in participants' homes. Continued support helps people to remember what their purpose was for quitting. Helping others to quit and stay quit has been responsible for the continued success of many former smokers.

Continued Support/Therapy - During, and after this program is concluded, anyone who needs extra help with any area of the process can make an appointment for individual help. The fee per hour for those who have completed the seven sessions is $50.00/hour. The usual rate is $75.00.
